The Chief Medical Director of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Onome Ogueh formally launched the DELSUTH Football Club and appointed Engr. Andrew Ofishe as the DELSUTH Director of Sports. The ceremony which took place on 6 June 2019 at the hospital Board room also had Mr. Stober Tomenior appointed as the captain of DELSUTH F.C.

In his opening remarks, the CMD disclosed that the aim of the maiden Unity Cup football tournament in April 2019 between staff unions was to engender unity amongst all staff. The CMD added that working in a hospital environment is relatively stressful, because what everyone does involve life and death. Dr. Onome Ogueh further said that the nature of work in the hospital makes staff not to be far away from the patients, as staff actions directly affect the patients and because of that it is indeed very stressful for all of us, adding that from time to time we needed an opportunity like football to relax, enjoy and to laugh together.
Later in the day the launching of the DELSUTH football club was followed by a novelty match between the DELSUTH football club and the Western Delta University football club at the DELSUTH games arena. DELSUTH FC won by a goal to nil against Western Delta University FC.

While commenting on the importance of the novelty match between both institutions, the Vice-Chancellor of the Western Delta University, Professor (Mrs.) O.C Okobia praised both teams for the efforts they all put into the game, saying that will encourage and foster cordial relationship amongst institutions in the state.
The CMD, Dr. Onome Ogueh filled with excitement, thanked both football teams for their performance and participation during the match and thanked the invited guests that found time out of their busy schedules to come and watch the match.
