Budgeting Process

The Management of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, organized a one-day in-house training on budgeting for all Heads of Departments in the Hospital. The workshop held on Tuesday 16th February, at the hospital’s Main Auditorium.

Delivering the lecture titled:  Budgeting in the Public Sector, the Head of Accounts Department, DELSUTH, Mr Patrick Ologwa, pointed out that it is necessary for Heads of Department to draw operational budget estimates to help determine needs for their departments annually. He said this will help the Management sum up the total estimate needed for operational activities yearly.

Throwing light on how to draw-up a departmental budget, Mr. Ologwa explained that Heads of Department should first identify their needs, do a costing on these needs, check the rates of usage of those materials or consumables and timing of purchases and forward same in a timely manner.

The Deputy Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, of the hospital, Dr Emmanuel Akpo who represented the Chief Medical Director, Dr Onome Ogueh at the workshop, thanked every HOD for coming. He encouraged every Head of Department and staff of the hospital to work harder and in unity. He also encouraged them to think out of the box to see what opportunities and grants they can attract into the hospital. He said this effort would help improve the internally generated revenue of the hospital. He added that the state government alone could not fund every need of the hospital.
